A GUIDE, NOT A GUARANTEE

Good stories.
Distinguished company.

We bring together novels and novellas recognized by four major science fiction awards. Every book has its own award history, so you can follow the recognition that matters to you.

Locus

A readers’ poll. We track Science Fiction Novel, historical Novel, and Novella winners. We include top ten finalists from 2017 onward and clearly labeled top five poll selections in earlier years.

Arthur C. Clarke

A juried award for a science fiction novel first published in the UK in the preceding year. We include winners and shortlists.

How the library is assembled

Award facts are collected from the Science Fiction Awards Database, maintained by the Locus Science Fiction Foundation. Links to each source appear in the book details. Records currently extend through 2026 where results are available. Historical Locus recognition has been expanded. This catalog covers the four selected award families and core novel and novella categories. The original genre queue has been reviewed against work specific evidence, and the source coverage check reconciles the selected award records with catalog entries. This is a catalog of the four selected awards and categories, not every science fiction book or award.

“Wins” counts distinct award families won by that specific work. Finalist appearances are shown separately and exclude wins. Tied winners count as winners. Nebula records use the ceremony year in SFADB, which can differ from the eligibility year used on the official Nebula site. Original award categories are preserved even when two awards classify a work’s length differently. An award is a useful signal, never a promise that a book will suit every reader.

Available covers are downloaded and decoded to validate the image, rather than simply trusting the URL. Available publication metadata comes from Open Library. Some descriptions are short attributed excerpts, not full synopses. Some works still need a cover, synopsis, or a verified purchase edition. Fantasy without a science fiction premise and other fiction are excluded even if recognized by one of these awards. Genre boundaries are editorial decisions based on the specific work, with sources retained in the catalog. Crossovers are labeled and can be filtered separately. Novellas may be published inside a collection or magazine; check the edition before purchasing.

Our starting shelf is an editorial selection, followed by distinct award wins and recency. It is not a reader rating. Reader ratings will appear only after real data is added, with source and snapshot date. Missing ratings are never treated as zero.
